Certified Product Recognition awarded to Metal Technology by Dr Wolfgang Feist

We were delighted to attend the Passive Product Certification: Market Advantage, Performance & Opportunity event hosted by the Passive House Association of Ireland in Dublin. The event was inspiring from start to finish, with insightful sessions delivered by leading Passive House experts including Helena McElmeel, Ann-Marie Fallon, Caroline Ashe Brady, Dr Wolfgang Feist, Tomas O’Leary, Soraya López García and John O’Connell.

A key highlight of the evening was the presentation of Certified Product Recognition to Metal Technology’s Connor Corry by Dr Wolfgang Feist, physicist and founder of the Passive House concept, for four aluminium façade systems certified by the Passive House Institute. It was particularly encouraging to hear Dr Feist address and debunk long-standing misconceptions around aluminium systems. His insights reinforced that, through considered design and the correct specification of materials, aluminium can successfully meet the rigorous demands of Passive House certification.

This aligns with Metal Technology’s commitment to sustainability, combining high-performance thermal efficiency with the use of ultra-low carbon aluminium billets, helping to drive the transition towards zero-emission buildings. The evening concluded with a compelling fireside discussion between Dr Wolfgang Feist and Jeff Colley leaving the room inspired, motivated, and eager for what comes next.

Down High School – a Landmark Education Campus

The £44 million Down High School represents a best-in-class educational campus in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland. Designed as a modern, co-educational post-primary facility for students aged 11-18, the school accommodates over 950 pupils from across the South Down region.

Metal Technology’s architectural glazing systems played a pivotal role in shaping the building’s modern identity. Floor-to-ceiling glazing maximises natural daylight, enhances energy efficiency, and creates bright, open learning environments that support student wellbeing and engagement.

Metal Technology specified for Strule Shared Education Campus

The £400 million Strule Shared Education Campus is Northern Ireland’s largest ever education project. Currently under construction on the former Lisanelly Army Barracks site in Omagh, it is due to open in September 2028.

Being delivered by Woodvale Lowry Joint Venture, this transformative project will bring together six schools from across the community, including grammar, secondary, and special education provision. More than 4,000 children and young people from different backgrounds will learn together in a vibrant, dynamic “super-campus,” benefiting from a shared curriculum and extensive extra-curricular opportunities.

We are proud to have been specified to supply our high-performance Windows, Doors, Curtain Walling and Louvre systems across all school buildings, as well as the Shared Education Centre and Shared Sports Centre & Pavilion.

The Shared Education Centre features Metal Technology’s System 17-65 65mm Capped Curtain Walling in conjunction with specially installed solid sandstone pillars and complemented by colourful Swisspearl rainscreen cladding. To enhance comfort and performance, Guardian Solar Control Glass has been specified to reduce overheating and glare within the classrooms.

The façade is designed to meet PAS24 “Secured by Design” standards, with stringent thermal requirements achieving a U-value of 1.6 W/m²K across the glazed elements. Metal Technology’s advanced system solutions have been carefully selected to meet these demanding performance criteria.

This pioneering development represents a major investment in the future of education and community integration, and we are excited to play a role in a project that will help regenerate the local area and enrich the lives of young people in Omagh.
