Architecture Night 2018

Friday 19th October is Architecture night, a social and cultural evening that will focus on the power of architecture and its ability to bring about positive change.

Organised by the Royal Society of Ulster Architects (RSUA), and proudly sponsored and supported by Metal Technology, the event will take place in Carlisle Memorial Church, inner north Belfast.

Designed by WH Lynn and opened in 1875, Carlisle Memorial was included on the World Monument Fund Watch in 2010 – a biennial list of the most endangered cultural and heritage sites in the world. At a time when the value of built heritage is high on the agenda, it is a very fitting location to celebrate local architecture.

BBC’s Ireland correspondent, Mark Simpson will guide guests through the three parts of the evening. Part 1 will focus on the best architecture students, Part 2 will reveal the outcome of the #MyBelfastIdea Design Competition for Early Career Architects and Part 3 will recognise the contribution made to architecture in Northern Ireland by two non-architects.

Based on the success of the Architecture Nights in 2016 and 2017, this event will be very well attended with Architects from all sectors of the building industry, architectural students, leading figures from the built environment sector and a wide range of key influencers.

In addition to Metal Technology, the event is also supported by JP Corry, Ceco, Hays and Dixons.

AC Hotel by Marriott, Glazing Systems by Metal Technology!

The AC Hotel by Marriott, at Belfast’s City Quays, brings together a suite of systems from architectural aluminium company Metal Technology.

Part of a mixed-use regeneration project by Belfast Harbour, the four-star hotel rises nine storeys and includes 188 bedrooms, reception area, lounge and bar, gym and meeting rooms. The glazed façade is constructed using Metal Technology’s System 17 curtain walling, capped and silicone pointed, complemented with System 4-35Hi+ casement windows and System 5-20DHi+ doors from the  THERMAL range. It is also one of the biggest commercial projects to incorporate the newest product on the Metal Technology family, System 26Hi+ bi-fold doors.

This is the first AC Hotel by Marriott on the island of Ireland and features “Novelli at City Quays” where multi-Michelin-starred chef Jean-Christophe Novelli adds his flare to the dining experience.

Used in isolation or in an integrated scheme, Metal Technology systems provide reliable structural integrity, weather performance, thermal enhancement and security, together with creative and design freedom to deliver superb results, as evidenced by this stunning hotel project.
