Driving Sustainability through Digital Warehousing

As part of Metal Technology’s drive to reduce our carbon footprint and deliver on our sustainability strategy, we have recently implemented a digital warehousing system to our Goods Out department to streamline our despatch process and eliminate internal paper usage.

In conjunction with our software provider, we have created a bespoke system specifically designed to meet our needs. Implementation is fully complete, and everyone has embraced the new procedures.

📲 All orders are now sent directly from our internal sales department to tablets, which are then used to pick the orders.
✅ Once confirmed on the tablet and dispatched, an automatic invoice is generated for the customer.
📉 This has reduced our internal documentation by 95% and reduced our administration time to invoice by 50%.

For the customer, a single-sheet delivery note is still sent with all goods to allow customers to check and confirm their deliveries on arrival, but all internal paperwork has been removed. The process has also improved our live stock inventory. As we continue our net zero journey, we are constantly analysing methods and processes which give greater efficiencies for a more sustainable environment.

This is an exciting time for the business, with further environmental improvements planned for 2026.
