Weavers’ Hall: Passivhaus performance at scale
Queen’s University Belfast’s new Weavers’ Hall student residence demonstrates how certified aluminium systems can help deliver Passivhaus performance at scale. The 16-storey building provides 459 en-suite rooms and is the first Passivhaus-certified purpose-built student accommodation on the island of Ireland, as well as the island’s largest certified Passivhaus building.
Metal Technology supplied Passive House Institute-certified System 5-45 Hi+ Tilt & Turn Windows, System 5-35D Hi+ Heavy-duty Hinged Swing Doors and System 17 Hi+ Fully Capped Curtain Walling. Fabricated and installed by Omagh Aluminium Systems for GRAHAM, the systems contribute to the building’s high levels of thermal performance, airtightness and low thermal bridging. The project achieved an impressive air-pressure test result of 0.49 ACH, demonstrating Passivhaus performance across a major city-centre development.
