The new state–of–the–art Strabane Academy brings both sites together in one single campus location and has been awarded a (RICS) Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors 2020 Social Impact Award.
The school building extends to approximately 10,000 m² on the existing site campus of seven hectares and accommodates new buildings including schools administration, school meals accommodation, learning resource centre, staff areas and information technology at ground floor. The first floor level comprises of school library, 6th form accommodation and science classrooms. Sports facilities include a hockey pitch, 2 rugby pitches and 5 tennis courts with car parking / bus areas for 700 pupils. Main contractor was Woodvale Construction Company.
Fabricator B H Glazing Ltd, used Metal Technology Ltd systems to achieve the BREEAM Excellent rating and the design by architects Samuel Stevenson & Sons Ltd included PAS24 – “Secured by Design” security standards.
The project incorporated the use of faceted curtain walling in conjunction with Solar Control Glass to achieve a u-value of 1.8w/m2k across the built glazed façade. Metal Technology Systems used were System 17 Capped Curtain Walling and from our THERMAL ranges, System 4-35Hi Casement Windows, System 5-20Hi+ Heavy-Duty Doors plus our System 23 Glazed-In Louvres.
