The new £40 million Causeway Campus at Northern Regional College, Coleraine has opened its doors to students for the new academic year. Designed by McAdam Design and delivered by Heron Bros, the new build campus is on the same site footprint as the old 60’s original build.
The project design brief was to create an expansive glass wall façade running parallel with Union Street that would utilise and capture as much natural light into the new structure and the teaching spaces. Large mullions were also utilised to enhance the appearance of the main façade screen to utilise larger glass units. A bespoke spigot was designed to facilitate extended fixing detailing on-site.
A range of Metal Technology’s architectural glazing systems were installed via approved fabricator Turkington Window Systems to deliver many high-performance characteristics and aesthetics:
– Thermal requirements required a u-value of 1.3W/m2k to be delivered across the built glazed façade in conjunction with Guardian SunGuard SuperNeutral SN 70/35 Solar Control Glass.
– The scheme had also to meet PAS24 – “Secured by Design” security standards.
– The project will be required to meet the BREEAM standard.
– The scheme also utilised a horizontally mounted Brise Soleil solution. A Marine Grade Polyester Powder Coating was utilised due to the site’s proximity to the river Bann estuary.
We are proud to have contributed to such an exciting and significant development, which will enhance education and enrich the community of Coleraine and beyond.
