One of London’s largest privately owned hospitality operators, Marlin Group, has opened its first state-of-the-art hotel in Dublin’s Bow Lane, right in the heart of the city.
The €55 million innovative and contemporary development was designed by architects Cantrell Crowley and built by McAleer & Rushe. The 110,000 sq ft Marlin Hotel comprises of 7 storeys over a 2 storey basement, with 300 modern bedrooms, an extensive bar and restaurant area on the ground floor, as well as a gymnasium, meeting rooms, internal courtyard and an outdoor terrace. The development also includes a retail unit at ground floor level and ancillary space at basement level.
The building has a distinctive triangular shape, with the hotel entrance located at its ‘point’. The glass and aluminium exterior was constructed using Metal Technology’s System 17 curtain walling, capped and silicone pointed. Metal Technology worked with fabricator and installer OAS and developed a range of bespoke extrusion profiles which clipped together to create 500mm integrated horizontal and vertical feature fins, providing interest and adding privacy to the bedrooms. Simultaneously, the profiles also reduce the cooling load on the building by providing solar shading along the façades. To reduce the impact on the surrounding areas and in particular, the protected structures in Aungier Street, the top two levels of the building are set back and fully glazed. Metal Technology’s System 4-35 Hi+ casement windows and System 5-20D Hi+ doors from the range were also used in the development.
Described as the “first of its kind in Ireland”, Marlin Hotel’s rooms range from compact luxury to interconnecting suites, kitted out with the latest high-tech features such as HD Smart TVs, Bluetooth speakers, LED mood lighting and automated black-out blinds. The thoughtfully designed lobby area offers guests a self-service check in or a more personal welcome by the Front of House team.
Used in isolation or in an integrated scheme, Metal Technology systems provide reliable structural integrity, weather performance, thermal enhancement and security, together with creative and design freedom to deliver superb results, as evidenced by this stunning hotel project.
