Aster House student accommodation has been recently completed by Farrans Construction for Chicago-based client CA Ventures (managed by its in-house property management company, Novel Student), offering a mixture of 253 en-suite bedrooms and studios across five-storeys.
A stylish and peaceful ‘green’ living space echoing the nearby Botanic Garden, the building provides its residents the ideal escape from the fast pace of university life. Beautifully furnished rooms, games areas, communal lounges, a gym and a karaoke room, make Aster House a sought-after home for students.
Described by Farrans as a “technically challenging” and “complex” build, the company’s design responsibility extended to dealing with the planning authority along with responsibility for fire and, importantly, acoustic considerations due to the nearby railway. There was also an agreement with Translink not to impact on the public transport route. Metal Technology Ltd’s architectural glazing products were specified via approved fabricator D & K Architectural Systems Ltd, to deliver the following high-performance characteristics required of the build:
– Thermal requirements require a u-value of 1.4w/m2k to be delivered across the built glazed façade.
– Onerous 46dB RW Acoustic performance required of the project façade due to its location to motorway traffic 24/7.
Metal Technology products used in the scheme were: System 17 Curtain Walling, System 5-35Hi+ Thermal Tilt & Turn Windows, System 5-20DHi+ Thermal Heavy-Duty Doors and System 23 Glazed-In Louvres.
