Net Zero Week™ 2026 | Metal Technology’s Journey Towards Net Zero

As we mark Net Zero Week 2026, we’re proud to share the progress Metal Technology continues to make in reducing the environmental impact of both our operations and our products.

Our journey, led by William McIlvenna, Technical & Sustainability Manager, is underpinned by our commitment to the Business in the Community Northern Ireland Climate Action Pledge, where we’ve committed to reducing our Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030, measuring and reducing Scope 3 emissions, and reporting our company-wide greenhouse gas emissions annually. We’re pleased to share that, following the submission of our 2025 report, we’ve already achieved a 73.09% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions compared to our 2019 baseline.

This progress has been driven by continued reductions in natural gas consumption, the installation of an additional 100kW solar array, our transition to a 100% green electricity tariff, the introduction of HVO fuel across our delivery fleet, and the operation of a fleet of eight electric forklifts. These initiatives demonstrate how long-term investment and continuous improvement can deliver measurable environmental benefits.

Alongside reducing our own operational footprint, we’re helping customers reduce the embodied carbon of their projects. Our Low Carbon Aluminium offering, including RecycAL 4.0 as standard – already delivering a 34% reduction in embodied carbon compared to the UK aluminium extrusion industry standard, and RecycAL 1.9 for ultra-low-carbon applications, enables significant reductions in embodied carbon without compromising system performance.

We’ve also recently published new comparative carbon analysis documents for our curtain walling, window and door systems, providing greater transparency when used alongside our independently verified EPDs and helping specifiers make more informed sustainability decisions.
