Templehall: Fife’s First Passive House Community Hub

Metal Technology has supplied architectural glazing, including its Passive House certified systems, for Templehall Community Hub – Fife Council’s first Passivhaus community building. Designed by AHR and built by BAM UK & Ireland, the 1,485m² hub in Kirkcaldy replaces ageing facilities with a library, multipurpose hall, teaching kitchen, café, youth club and computer suite under one roof.

A fabric-first envelope, large areas of glazing, a canopy and vertical glazing fins deliver daylight, views and passive shading while helping the building reach Passivhaus Classic certification and an airtightness of 0.42 air changes per hour. Certified components were essential to that result: excellent thermal control, exceptional airtightness and a comfortable indoor climate, all while supporting a bright, civic and community-focused design.
