16U Spitfire Hangar, Brabazon
Metal Technology Ltd is proud to have supported the transformation of Hangar 16U, a Grade II listed aircraft hangar built in 1915–1917 for the Royal Flying Corps and later used by the RAF for aircraft including Hawker Hurricanes and Spitfires.
Expertly designed by Ferguson Mann Architects and delivered by YTL Developments (UK) Limited, the historic structure has been sensitively converted into a mixed-use community and wellbeing hub for the new Brabazon neighbourhood.
The redevelopment retains key heritage features, including the iconic Belfast roof trusses, brickwork, and original hangar doors, while introducing modern glazed ends and sustainable systems. New facilities include a café, public library, gym and wellness spaces, activity rooms, youth areas, and a multi-faith hall.
Metal Technology’s Systems were designed manufactured and installed by Dudley’s Aluminium:
- System 17 Curtain Walling
- System 4-35Hi+ Casement Windows
- System 10-35Hi+ Thermally Broken Anti-Finger Trap Commercial Doors
A fitting tribute to the past and a valuable asset for the community.
