Hamilton Dock Hotels: Aloft and Residence Inn by Marriott

Titanic Quarter, Belfast

High-Performance Glazing for Hamilton Dock Hotels

Designed by RMI Architects and delivered by main contractor Ganson, the dual-branded Hamilton Dock Hotels – Aloft by Marriott Belfast Titanic Quarter (135 loft-style rooms) and Residence Inn by Marriott Belfast Titanic Quarter (93 studio and one-bedroom suites) – form a landmark six-storey waterfront development in Belfast’s iconic Titanic Quarter.

Situated directly south of Titanic Belfast and adjacent to the historic Hamilton Dock (home to the SS Nomadic), the project sits on a prominent site within the former Harland & Wolff shipyard lands. It opened in May 2026 as Northern Ireland’s first Aloft hotel and a key addition to the area’s hospitality offering, supporting tourism near the SSE Arena and other attractions while creating operational jobs.

The development targets high sustainability standards, including BREEAM Excellent, EPC A and LEED Gold credentials, as part of JMK Group’s investment in energy-efficient, brand-led assets. The façade needed to deliver strong thermal performance to support these goals while meeting demanding acoustic requirements in a busy urban waterfront location. Generous floor-to-ceiling glazing on lower levels was also required to maximise views toward Titanic Belfast and the listed dock, combining contemporary architecture with the site’s maritime heritage through refined materials such as pre-cast concrete and brick.

Metal Technology’s high-performance architectural aluminium glazing systems were specified for the project and installed by Topglass. The systems utilised were System 4-35Hi+ Thermal Casement Windows, System 5-20DHi+ Thermal Heavy-Duty Hinged Swing Doors, System 17 Fully Capped Curtain Walling and System 23 Glazed-In Louvres. Finished in a combination of RAL7016 Anthracite Grey and a special Akzo Nobel Anodic Gold Splendour polyester powder coating, these solutions provided the necessary thermal performance across the glazed façade and the onerous acoustic insulation required for guest comfort. Metal Technology’s thermally enhanced systems are designed for structural integrity, weather resistance, thermal efficiency and security, integrating seamlessly to support modern design while meeting building regulations and sustainability targets.

The completed project highlights a successful collaboration across the design, construction and façade teams. Metal Technology’s high-performance systems deliver energy efficiency, acoustic comfort and a striking contemporary appearance, supporting the dual-branded Marriott hotels in one of Belfast’s most significant and regenerating districts while showcasing advanced aluminium glazing on a complex waterfront site.
