St Ronan’s College has officially opened its brand new £58 million campus in Lurgan. Designed by Samuel Stevenson & Sons and delivered by Glasgiven Contracts, the purpose-built campus combines the college’s three previous locations into one state-of-the-art facility, accommodating 1,750 pupils. The project is the largest, single school build within the Northern Ireland Department of Education’s major capital programme. Bringing the school together as a single campus will help St Ronan’s develop its own identity and ethos.
A range of Metal Technology’s architectural glazing products were fabricated and installed in the flagship project by D & K Architectural Systems: System 4-35 Hi+ Casement Windows, System 5-20D Hi+ Heavy Duty Doors, System 17 Curtain Walling and System 23 Louvres.
The new 20,000 sqm college features inspiring classrooms and specialist learning spaces, a dedicated sixth-form centre and a double-height dining hall. It also boasts extensive sports and community amenities, including a fitness suite, sports hall, GAA and football pitches and tennis courts, as well as a music department and drama facilities, plus design and technology workshops.
Mrs Fiona Kane, Principal, St Ronan’s College:
“The vision for the use of the new building is for full community use, a hub of learning, activity, creativity, sport and extra-curricular pursuits, interests and hobbies – throughout the day, into the evening and at weekends. We are a school at the heart of our community and community is at the heart of our school.”
