Belfast International Airport Terminal Extension

Belfast, Northern Ireland

High-performance façade systems for new terminal extension

Belfast International Airport has opened phase one of its £100m five-year investment programme. The new terminal extension features a reflective, glass wall façade with an intensive grid configuration climbing up into the cladding. To achieve the desired thermal requirements and to comply with PAS24, a range of Metal Technology’s system solutions were specified to deliver these high-performance characteristics, installed by approved fabricator IAT (Innovated Aluminium Technology).

Systems installed include:

  • System 4-35Hi+ Thermal Casement Windows
  • System 5-20DHi+ Thermal Heavy-Duty Hinged Swing Doors
  • System 10-35Hi+ Thermal Commercial Automatic Sliding & Bi-Parting Doors
  • System 17 High Rise Fully Capped Curtain Walling

The first £25m investment phase features a new state-of-the-art security hall which has been purpose built for growth to ensure the area can adapt with passenger demand and features Next Generation Security Equipment allowing for a more seamless transition through the security process. Enhancements have also been made to the Arrivals area, including a new external forecourt.

The transformative 1600 sqm Duty Free store combines Duty Free, Food & Beverage and Travel Essentials all under one roof. Passengers can also explore an international tasting bar, sampling local and global products to discover and take home their favourite finds.

We’re proud to have played a part in transforming the passenger experience at Belfast International Airport.
